Hi John! Your best bet for finding a school in this area would be to buy or borrow a copy of our 2000 Guide To Farrier Supplies and Services (November issue). It lists a total of 66 farrier schools and gives such information as the number of students and instructors, primary instructor's name, tuition aid availability, certification, schedule and more.

If you can't borrow a November issue from someone, we can sell you one for $25 or send you a photocopy of the schools section for $6. Just give us a call at (262) 782-4480 or (800) 645-8455 (U.S. only).

Good luck!

John,

There are several schools in California, Oregon and Washington state. The following is a list of schools, location, and phone numbers:

Pacific Coast Horseshoeing School

Sacramento, CA

(916) 366-6064

Shasta Valley Forge

Montague, CA

(530) 459-0951

Sierra Horseshoeing School

Bishop, CA

(760) 872-4200

Linn-Benton Community College

Albany, OR

(541) 917-4761

Mission Farrier School

Walla Walla, WA

(509) 529-9434

Scott Simpson's Northwest School of Horseshoeing

Walla Walla, WA

(509) 522-4663

Walla Walla Community College

Walla Walla, WA

(509) 527-4291

The above list is alphabetical order by state. I don't know alot about all these schools, but you could research them and find the school that fits your needs the best. Additionally if you are interested in traveling a little farther, there is a farrier science program at Mesa Technical College in Tucumcari, NM. This program I am familar with and could answer any of your questions if you are interested in traveling a little more distance.

Good Luck!

Mesa Technical College

Tucumcari, NM
