I do a large hunter jumper barn, I inheritated a horse that two other farriers had been shoeing. The horse loses shoes. This is a 16.2 horse. Has no heels front or back at this time and does'nt look to grow much heel normally. TB hoofs. The horse is campey in the back and his hoofs come up high in the air and then drop down close to the front hoofs. I put EDS on the front and two days later he pulled one off in the pasture. The other farriers had the same problem and the people switched to me hoping I had the answer. I thought of putting wedge pads on the back and shortening the toe. I don't have a problem with any other horse in the barn, about 25. Anyone have a tip?

sounds like you have right idea going. Next step is to look at the pasture situation. What kind of fenceing. Is he turned out with other horses is he on the top of the pecking order or on the bottom does he paw at fences does he run the fences if he is by himself.Does he run and buck and kick up his heels when he is turned out. Mabey he needs to be worked before he is turned out. If his feet are that bad you may have to have them keep him in and make sure his exersise time is completley under control until his feet get better. You might tell them that there is only so much you can do with what you have to work with and with out proper management of his feet which is there job.You cant watch him 24-7 The shoes are safed toes squared and you have done your best the manegemnt is up to them .Sometimes habits have to be changed not shoers.

I dont have a lot of expeirience with the hunter jumpers but when i have shod for the endurance and we have a problem like this i will tend to leave a little higher angle in the front so that the horse is able to break over faster , or you could try maybe a rocker toe ? i am sure that these have come to mind already but this is just a suggestion .

The trouble is in the hind in. The horse is a TB sprinter. He pushes off on the hind in and reaches up high. I did put rocker toes in the back and I'm waiting to see what happens. I may add a wedge pad in the back too if this isn't enough. I think I need to shorten the stride in the back, and I'm looking for some ideas.
