how old do your horses need to be when you start training them, specifically the knee joints and the weight you put on them.

I would wait till their 2 years old at least to start them. If you have taller horse that matures later then I would have the knees xrayed to see if their closed. The back is a concern also since the back is also still growing and matureing. Longer you can wait to start your horse the longer his career will be with out arthritis and pain from too much too soon. Unless you want to show in the futurities I would wait till their 3.
