I think this horse might be suffering from Pedal Osteitis. He is a big cross breed with fairly thin walls. The owner say's he never showed any lameness until about 16 months ago. can anyone give me a better idea on this. he has sever bruising on both front feet and he is showing alitle boold speckling in his hinds. I have only seen this horse one other time so have no other history.

Also wnat to say the vet has seen himand just can't tell really what it is.And in our area there are no large animal vet clinics. sooo every thing is guess work. The horse has some heat in the hoof and rock side to side. then front to back.

Sherika,
There are a multitude of things it could be - bruising, laminitis, etc.
The only real way to help determine this is find a veterinarian who can take radiographs to help in the diagnostic search. Otherwise, your spitting in the wind guessing.

I agree with Esco but is the owner willing to spend the money for a vet. If not I would make a recommendation. Since this is affecting both feet I would look more at laminitis and assume the cause of sole bruising. At least get radiographs. These are essential to see the degree of rotation in the coffin bone.

the only place up here in Alaska. from where we are is 240 miles away. I cant talk him into hauling the horse up. so i suggested different forms of shoes that would at least relive some of the pressure. and haven't got any response so. More or less the horses is only getting sporadic hoof care so i have helped the best i could. thank you for your info.

Sherika, If a vet is out 0f the question and finances are an issue and you're just trying what you can to find something to help relieve the pain then I would try this. Apply a Rocker Toe Shoe with 2 two degree pads. Remove one of the pads once he is moving with no lameness. Usually a couple of resets and then remove the final pad usually after couple of resets as well. Wear the Rocker toe shoes for a couple of more resets. Good Luck!
