I have been advised to use copper sulfate & venous turpentine on hooves with severely infected white line due to neglect. (initial visit required a saw to "trim" back toe) Horses also live in their own manure & have severe thrush issues. (client has been advised on what needs to be done environmentally) Progress has been achieved with traditional 50/50 bleach water daily application but I do need to get more aggressive with this bacterial infection & have been advised to proceed w/ the copper sulfate/venous turpentine solution. I require advice regarding proper application techniques, safety, & generally what to expect.

Thanks!

Mike

Mike, getting them to muck their stalls is number one. Two, is encourage them to use a hoof pick on each foot daily. Three ,the bleach and water is good then just follow with Kopertox painted on the sole and frogs. The Venice turpentine you don't really need unless the feet are really soft. Good luck getting your clients to do this daily! Gary

i use copper sulfate/venous turpintine on most of my horses between the sole and pads i mix it stronger in the wet times of the year i also fill the cavity with 1 inch foam i think it works great in other cases i use hoof-pak(equi-thane) if the horse needs extra support
