Hi guys, we are working on a story featuring farriers' perspectives and advice on modifications to keg shoes. How often do you heat and reshape shoes? Or do you just do a touch of cold shaping? Let us know here or e-mail me at jmcgovern@lesspub.com.
We will include your name with your thoughts in the story.
This story will run in the January issue.
Thanks in advance.

My question is, should we ever use sliders on roping horses? If so when and how? I know we need quick stops and no unnecessary sliding. Awaiting replies.

Ray , I'm a farrier and a teamroper. As a teamroper i need my horse to stop NOW. i try to TEACH my horse how to stop correctly , But in doing that the horse sometimes wants to stop so hard that its hard to get a wrap(im Old and slow). So i put slidders on to soften the stop with out lossing the feet . as a farrier i don't always like putting them on Because some people think you can MAKE a horse stop if they put sliders on . That can lead to problems like back trouble or the horse can't stop when you take them off . You never hear of a reiner Makeing his horse stop by putting sliders on . they spend alot of time Teaching them to stop then the sliders enhance it
