Take the time to keep them clean, sharp, and oiled.

Protection and maintenance pays off. Don't just throw stuff in a box. Allowing everything to co-mingle is gonna dull your knives and nippers, and REALLY dulls your rasps.

If nothing else, wrap your rasps in a rag, and squirt them with WD-40 at least once a week.

Use a wire brush with a scraper end to clean mud off of hooves. I also carry a burlap sack to wipe them down. Mud kills rasps.

Good knives are worth the high price. Get a pair, then contact the manufacturer to find out how they suggest sharpening them.
