Shoeing Challenge Announced by Vibram And Farrier & Hoofcare Resource Center Co-Op

The challenge: shoe a horse to manage high/low hoof conformation. The participants: farriers worldwide interested in testing and sharing their technical expertise. Vibram® and Farrier & Hoofcare Resource Center Co-op (F&HRC) have assembled a panel of illustrious judges to determine the most proficient application of shoes that best manages a high/low condition.
 
VibramFarriers can participate by submitting before and after photos of their work. To register, visit the F&HRC Web site. The program is open to all F&HRC Co-op members.
 
“The challenge is an opportunity for farriers to advance their skills and win some great prizes while doing so,” explained Kevin Donahue, Jr., sales and marketing, Vibram Hoof Pads, at Quabaug Corporation. “We are proud of the quality of our hoof pads and abrasives and encourage farriers to showcase and take pride in the quality of their work.”
 
Farrier And Hoof-Care Resource CenterIn partnership with American Farriers Journal (AFJ), winners will be announced this February at the seventh annual International Hoof-Care Summit in Cincinnati and in an issue of AFJ. In addition, the first prize winner will receive a pair of Work One External Metatarsal Guard Work Boots. Eight inches high and crafted in Black Walnut Badlands Oil Leather, the boots feature steel toes and Vibram soles. Second prize winner will receive 12 pairs of Vibram Hoof Pads or six Norzon sanding belts and the number three finisher will be awarded six pairs of Vibram Hoof Pads or three Norzon sanding belts.
 
The Challenge judges are all distinguished leaders in the farrier industry. Chris Gregory CJF, MS, FWCF, one of the youngest to be bestowed the honor of Fellowship of the Worshipful Company of Farriers is an accomplished shoer, teacher, writer and owner of the prestigious Heartland Horseshoeing School and a member of the International Horseshoeing Hall of Fame. David Nicholls RSS, AWCF, RJF, LS-HMC, CNBBT, CNBF, CLS is the owner of Total Foot Protection Ltd., a farrier supply business in England as well as a vet and farrier referral center supporting vets, farriers and horse owners in the treatment of lameness and foot related problems. Nichols has spoken and demonstrated his skills at many of the major farrier and veterinary conferences and symposiums around the world and provides clinics to farriers, vets and horse owners. Bob Pethick CJF, an examiner for the American Farrier’s Association (AFA) is a seven-time American Farrier Team Member and a member of the International Horseshoeing Hall of Fame.
