Hall Of Fame Farrier Duke Bonde Passes Away
Duke Bonde, a member of the International Horseshoeing Hall Of Fame, passed away at his home in Modesto, Calif., on Saturday, Dec. 5. He was 80.
Bonde spent more than 50 years shoeing horses at California racetracks and was widely regarded in the farrier industry as one of the best to ever work the track. He was also recognized for his work as a member of the California Horse Racing Board.
When he was inducted into the Hall of Fame, he told American Farriers Journal, “I’ve been shoeing since 1952 and have found it to be a rewarding and honorable profession. Horseshoeing has provided me with the opportunity to make a good living and raise my family. It’s an honor to provide a service to the care and welfare of the horse.”
According to The Blood Horse, Bonde was inspired to go into horseshoeing by his uncle, Robert DePonte, who was also a farrier. In turn, one of Bonde’s sons, Gary, followed him into horseshoeing.
Services for Bonde are pending at the Graham-Hitch Mortuary,
4167 First St., Pleasanton, Calif. The phone number is (925) 846-5624.
Although, I never knew of him or his past works
To even be nominated to The International Hall of Fame for either D.V.M./Farrier is a Tribute to his contribution the the industry we refer to as horseshoeing
with kind regards
